Rebates, Grants, & Ecoenergy Info

After reaching their goal of 250,000 registrations, Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) stopped accepting new registrations into the federal grant program on January 28, 2012. The deadline to complete work remains March 31, 2012, however the deadline to obtain a post-retrofit evaluation for work completed by March 31, 2012, is now June 30, 2012.

To clairify, NO NEW Ecoenergy applications are being accepted after January 28, 2012

Energy Star Air Conditioner Replacement (HRAI/OPA)

There has been much confusion with regards to the detail on this program. Below is information we feel will answer the most popular questions we have received thus far on the program.

  • These rebates apply to the replacement of an EXISTING central air conditioner ONLY.
  • $250 incentive when you have an existing central air conditioner replaced with the purchase and installation of an Energy Star qualified CAC system (Note: Energy Star qualified criteria = minimum of 14.5 SEER and 12 EER)
  • Or: $400 incentive when you have an existing central air conditioner replaced with the purchase and installation of a stand-alone CEE "Tier II" level central air conditioning system (Note: tier II level = minimum of 15 SEER and 12.5 EER)
  • The A/C or system quoted MUST meet the HRAI guidelines as set out on their website database (available at www.ceehvacdirectory.org/ac.php) IMPORTANT: a salesperson should provide you with an HRAI reference number, that can be confirmed using this website – no reference number found for system = no rebate! All of our sales representatives will give you a reference number where applicable so you can confirm this system independently.
  • The “rating sticker on the box” is not sufficient to ensure a unit qualifies
  • A manufacturer’s SEER rating is based on the optimal system conditions – which could mean that the A/C qualifies when combined with other special components, such as High Efficiency indoor coil, or furnace with DC Motor.
  • Most manufacturer’s units out of the box will not meet the program requirements. In Trane’s case, replacing an old A/C with even a 13 SEER or higher Trane unit can meet the program requirements when combined with a high efficiency coil, or Trane furnace containing a variable speed fan motor.
  • NEW! Check the status of your rebate at Cool Savings, you will need your rebate ID and postal code.

Please note that while you may not have considered replacing your furnace, the electrical savings on upgrading to a new furnace containing a variable speed fan motor can save you more than $450/year (see our guide to electrical savings for more information).

DC/E.C.M Motor Rebate

  • $250 Rebate from HRAI/OPA towards a High Efficiency Furnace with a DC Motor
  • Rebates are subject to change without notice. Please contact us for the most up to date information.
